BAT CATS ROUND ONE LOOMS FROM HOOVER, IT’S SEC TOURNAMENT WEEK

@CoachRyanKY

HOOVER,AL- The Southeastern Conference baseball regular season has come to a close and it’s time to crown a tournament champion. Consistently one of the premier conferences in collegiate baseball, the SEC currently holds five of the top eight NCAA Tournament projected seeds from D1Baseball.com. Hoover promises to provide top tier baseball over the course of the week to crown the eventual SEC Champion, a title that certainly would provide a large bit of momentum entering the Road to Omaha.

Kentucky enters as the No. 3 overall seed.

….but Coach Ryan! They won the SEC Regular Season title! How are they the Three Seed?!?

Well, here is how. Kentucky lost their series to Tennessee, giving the Vols the tie-breaker. Kentucky ended the season tied at the top with Tennessee for a SHARE of the SEC Regular Season Championship. Therefore, Tennessee gets the No. 1 seed. Math!

…COACH RYAN!!! THAT WOULD MEAN THEY ARE THE TWO SEED!!! DON’T YOU KNOW BALL?!?

Yes, yes I do. I know enough ball to know that the SEC West Champion would be awarded the No. 2 seed after Tennessee locked up No. 1. The No. 2 spot will be filled by the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Now, enough yelling at the clouds, it’s time to get down to business and preview who Kentucky would potentially play in their Opening Game from Hoover on Wednesday morning at 10:30 am, ET.

No. 11- LSU TIGERS

The LSU Tigers notably won a National Championship last year behind the powerhouse arm of Paul Skenes. Dylan Crews bolstered their offense and the Tigers rode off into the sunset from Omaha as the champs. After losing much of their roster to the MLB Draft, the Tigers have struggled to a 36-20 overall record (13-17 in Conference). No one asked, but I do not expect them to make much noise in Hoover. The Tigers would be a great match-up for Kentucky to get the bats warm and the arms loose to open the week.

No. 6- GEORGIA BULLDOGS

Georgia makes me nervous. Why does Georgia make me nervous you ask? One man, Charlie Condon.

Condon, a top prospect for the 2024 MLB Draft, has crushed a school record 54 home runs in two seasons for the Bulldogs. As if that record weren’t impressive enough, he also has hit 29 homeruns in 2024 for the single season school record at the University of Georgia.

The Bulldogs have battled to a 39-14 overall record (17-13) in conference and are projected as a Top 8 seed by D1Baseball.

Kentucky has never won a Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament, a distinction that they are more than ready to rid themselves the honor of possessing. These guys are special, they are entertaining, they are very weird (in an admirable way). I urge the BBN to rally these Bat Cats to Omaha (maybe get a little weird too).
