(LEXINGTON)- Kenny Brooks has been impressive in his first season at the helm for the Kentucky Women’s Basketball program. From Day One in Lexington, Brooks has referred to Kentucky as a “sleeping giant”. With his proven track record, recruiting prowess, and unrelenting work ethic — it is easy to see a bright future for the Women’s Basketball program.
Brooks has shown an ability to build winning programs throughout his coaching career. His time at Virginia Tech was impressive to say the least, transforming the Hokies into an annual NCAA Tournament team, resulting in a Final Four appearance in 2023. His experience in high-pressure situations will be invaluable as he leads Kentucky in pursuit of their ever elusive first Final Four.
One of Brooks’ greatest strengths is his ability to attract top-tier talent. His charisma, aura, and reputation for developing players make him a force to be reckoned with on the recruiting trail. Kentucky’s recent recruiting success, including commitments from highly ranked prospects such as Kaelyn Carroll, is proof in the pudding. Another player to be on the lookout for is #4 ranked 2025 player Agot Makeer, a Canadian that Brooks is currently the favorite to land.
Brooks is known nationally for his ability to develop players both on and off of the court. His focus on playing the game ‘right’, basketball IQ, and team chemistry ensures that his teams not only compete but have a winning culture. Players like Georgia Amoore and Elizabeth Kitley blossomed under his guidance at Virginia Tech, and Kentucky has players showing signs of similar improvement. Clara Strack, Amelia Hassett, and Teonni Key have all been impressive to this point in the season.
Kenny Brooks has the work ethic, the drive, and the support to turn Kentucky into an awakened giant. The 10-1 start to the season has been spectacular for a program that was a bottom dweller of the Southeastern Conference last season. An immediate turnaround, improved facilities, and a renewed culture in Lexington are reason for optimism.
