Portal Pandemonium: Who is Kentucky Seeking?

@CoachRyanKY 🦉

After Kentucky’s disappointing loss to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in the NCAA Tournament, another off season is upon us. Around these parts,  that can only mean one thing…roster overhaul. The transfer portal has changed the landscape of collegiate athletics unfathomably and sucesfully navigating this new landscape is turning out to be a "make or break" necessity on the road to success for coaches throughout the country. There are many factors that go into a player’s decision (culture, proximity to home, romantic interests, name-image-likeness opportunities, and playing time being among the most common).

Kentucky is seeking the following players to join next year’s roster:

BJ Freeeman (Combo)- 6’6” 200 lbs

With one year remaining of eligibility, BJ Freeman has been contacted by many power six programs. Could he provide the veteran leadership at Calipari is looking for?

2023-24 Season Stats (Milwaukee): 21.1 ppg , 6.6 rebs , 4.1 asst, 1.1 steals, 42.2% FG

Clifford Omoruyi (Center)- 6’11” 240 lbs

Also owning only one year of eligibility to play, the Rutgers big man would bring physicality down low to a roster that desperately needs it.

2023-24 Season Stats (Rutgers): 10.4 ppg, 8.3 rebs , 0.5 asst, 51.2% FG

Tyler Nickel (Combo)- 6’7” 220 lbs

Nickel has two years left to play, could they both be in Lexington? He signed with North Carolina as a 4 star prospect out of high school.

2023-24 Season Stats (Virginia Tech): 8.8 pts , 2.2 rebs , 1.3 asst , 43.8% FG

Jalen Blackmon (Guard)- 6’3” 180lbs

Blackmon is the son of former Kentucky Wildcat James Blackmon. He will be testing the waters of the NBA Draft but has left open the possibility of returning to college for his final year of remaining eligibility.

2023-24 Season Stats (Stetson): 21.3 ppg , 2.9 rebs , 1.9 asst , 42.8% FG

Cade Tyson (Combo)- 6’7” 205 lbs

Tyson is a highly sought after transfer. He has been contacted by the likes of Tennessee, Duke, North Carolina, and Kentucky. In 2022-23 he was the Missouri Conference Valley freshman of the year.

2023-24 Season Stats (Belmont): 16.2 ppg , 5.9 rebs , 1.6 asst , 49.3% FG
