BROOKLYN, NY- Reed Sheppard, dubbed by some as “Bluegrass Jesus” appeared to have revived the University of Kentucky basketball program this past season until the collective hearts of the Big Blue Nation were shattered with yet another Calipari fueled early exit from the NCAA Tournament.
There is no need to relive the whirlwind of what happened after the loss. But, in summary former Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari gallivanted around the country visiting “La Familia” and other loud voices. Calipari ultimately decided that the Hogs were calling and that his new home would be in the Pig Pen at Arkansas. When the time came to name a new Head Coach at The University of Kentucky, Mark Pope was given the call. Pope, a former college roommate of Reed’s father Jeff, was primed as any to make a push for the “messiah”. Pope, even paused after telling a capacity filled crowd that this team will be “sheppards” for years to come, gleefully gandering back at his old roomie. Ultimately the London, Kentucky native made the decision to enter the NBA Draft. Officially becoming a Calipari “One-and-done” (no I’m not talking about post season losses, that is just your wandering mind.)
Now the question is, where will Sheppard land? Well, if early NBA Draft indications are right, Reed will be moving to the Lone Star State. The Houston Rockets hold the number three overall pick followed at four by the Spurs from San Antonio. Nearly every mock draft that has been produced has Reed landing at one of those two spots. Whichever it is, I expect an influx of jersey sales to hit the Official NBA Shop tomorrow night after the draft as BBN is sure to gobble up the threads of one of their all-time favorites.
The NBA Draft will air June 26th on the Worldwide Leader, ESPN.
