What A Night in the Bluegrass!

By: @Clarkus23

LEXINGTON- I think my title says it all. While it wasn’t the outcome that we wanted, we definitely played better than most of our fanbase thought. I myself predicted 51-6 dawgs, so for us to not only be in the game the entire time, and not to mention leading at halftime, I think that had the BBN as a whole SHOCKED, and the Georgia fanbase too. Trust me we were deep in enemy territory, sitting in the UGA fan section! And entering the 4th quarter they were moaning and groaning. Lets get into the game now!

Coach Ryan and I walked up Waller Ave to the game since I live so close to the stadium, and let me tell ya, the juices were flowing, literally and figuratively. The closer we got to the stadium, the more electric the atmosphere got! The tailgating was on another level, we truly have some of the most loyal fans in any sport! Upon entering the stadium and finding our seats, we knew we were in for some fun, sitting amongst the enemy. After locating our seats, we went for a walk through the stadium concourse, and there was definitely a buzz in the air, and people thinking we had a shot!!

When the game finally kicked off, and our defense stopped them on their first drive, that stadium got louder than I’ve ever heard it. And you could tell our players were feeding off that energy!! Seconds into the game tempers flared between the teams, which led to a small scuffle. While our offense was abysmal, our defense stood up to test all night. Getting on the board first, and leading after 1 quarter, only got the crowd more into game. I wouldn’t be a very good writer if I didn’t mention them honoring the great TIM COUCH, he was brought on to the field to accept his college football hall of fame plaque in between the 1st and 2nd qtr. An honor that is very well deserved after everything he did here in the late 90s. The second quarter was much of the same, besides the overturned pick 6 by Zion Childress, little did we know that would have won the game for us. The defense stayed tough after the interception was overturned only giving up 3 points, and the offense managed to tack on another long field goal to take a 6-3 lead into halftime.

Kentucky started the 3rd quarter with a 6-minute 11 play drive that resulted in another field goal, giving the cats a 9-3 lead. The crowd was feeling it at this point. Georgia answered immediately with their own 11 play drive resulting in a field goal of their own. At the end of the 3rd quarter Kentucky held on to a 9-6 lead and had everyone in that stadium feeling some type of way. But Georgia was driving, and shortly after the 4th quarter started, they finished off that drive with big touchdown from Branson Robinson. That kind of deflated the crowd a little bit, but Kentucky would not back down. They responded with another 11-play drive, which resulted in another field goal. Not being able to put the ball in the endzone wound up being the nail in the coffin. Regardless I’m proud of the way the cats played the best team in the nation after the debacle last week against South Carolina. Like I said earlier its not the result we wanted, but that’s what we needed to see from this team. I look forward to recapping more games this year!
