Bat Cats move up to Number Three After Weekend Sweep of Auburn

@CoachRyanKY 🦉

AUBURN,ALABAMA- The Kentucky Wildcats baseball team is on a tear as of late, a historical tear as a matter of fact. The Bat Cats are 14-1 in Southeastern Conference play, a school record!

Bolstered by what many pundits and talking heads are dubbing “The Best Middle Infield in College Baseball”, it is virtually impossible to reach base on any ball hit their way. Not only are the gloves hot, but the bats have had the warmers on too.

Example, on Saturday the Wildcats fell down seven runs….and won the game.

Nick Lopez, the man with the fantastic facial follicle game, sent two deep to assist the Saturday comeback.

The overall success of the season has only been seen once around Lexington, as the Wildcats have reached 30 wins faster than any other team in school history behind only the 2012 squad that found themselves atop the polls at one point.

In this week’s polls, only SEC members Texas A&M (#1) and Arkansas (#2) are ahead of Nick Mingione’s lineup.

This weekend, a top five matchup will be taking place at Kentucky Proud Park as the Tennessee Volunteers will make the short trip up Interstate 75, bringing the (#4) ranking with them to kick off a three-game series beginning Friday night.

Kentucky expects a massive crowd to be on hand when first pitch is thrown at 6:30pm, ET. If you can’t make it, the games will be televised on SEC Network +. If you are a Lexington local however, I highly encourage you to plan to attend one of the games this weekend. The spacious and top-of-the-line Kentucky Proud Park awaits the “Blue Mist” forecasted to strike.

Game Times:

Friday, April 19th - 6:30 pm,ET

Saturday, April 20th - 2pm, ET

Sunday, April 21st- 1pm,ET

Also, I’d be remised if I didn’t extend a congratulations to Ryan Nicholson, the Louisville native, for achieving his 200th career hit on Saturday. He’s currently tied for the second most home runs in conference play with nine and has driven in the second most runs. Nice work from the Bluegrass native!
